Sacred Inquiry

The journey into the heart of the Goddess is one of both radical truth and deep mystery. To walk this path is to step beyond the superficial and into the primal cosmic currents of existence. Here, we address the common inquiries of seekers with the clarity of our lineage — offering a foundation of understanding for those ready to transition from curiosity to direct experience.

1. What makes Adyakula different from other retreat centers or tantra schools in Rishikesh?

Adyakula is an intimate sanctuary rather than a large retreat center or a commercial school. We work in small groups and private one-to-one settings, allowing every experience to be tailored to the individual. Our work combines authentic Tantra rooted in the Divine Feminine tradition with somatic healing, body-based therapies, meditation, breathwork, and traditional practices that support genuine transformation—not just information.

2. What is the difference between the "Himalayan Yoga" I see in Rishikesh and the Eastern Indian tradition you teach?

Most modern yoga focuses on upward transcendence and stillness. The Eastern Shakta tradition (from Bengal, Odisha, and Assam) is a 'descending' path—it celebrates the life force, the emotions, and the sacredness of the material world. We work with the primal energies of the Goddess, focusing on 'Bhav' (devotional essence) and the awakening of the creative power within the body, rather than just physical postures.

3. Is this authentic Tantra?

Yes. Our teachings are rooted in traditional Shakta Tantra—the lineage that honors Shakti, the Divine Feminine—as well as classical yogic and meditative traditions. Tantra at Adyakula is a spiritual path of self-awareness, embodiment, and awakening. It is not based on modern pop-culture interpretations of Tantra.

4. I've never meditated or practiced yoga before. Can I still join?

Absolutely. Most of our workshops, healing sessions, and retreats are designed for complete beginners. You don't need any previous experience—only curiosity, openness, and a willingness to explore your inner world.

5. Which experience is right for me?

It depends on your intention. If you're looking for relaxation and physical recovery, a Healing Session may be the best place to begin. If you're seeking emotional transformation and personal growth, our immersive retreats offer a deeper journey. If you want to study authentic Tantra or become a practitioner, our certified training programs provide structured learning. If you're unsure, we're happy to help you choose the experience that's most aligned with your needs.

6. Do I need to follow a particular religion or spiritual belief?

Not at all. People from every background and belief system are welcome. While our teachings draw from ancient Indian spiritual traditions, they are offered in an inclusive and practical way that emphasizes direct experience rather than belief.

7. Are your healing sessions personalized?

Yes. No two people arrive with the same needs. Every session is adapted to your physical, emotional, and energetic state. Depending on your goals, your experience may weave together different therapeutic approaches such as somatic healing, Ayurvedic therapies, breathwork, massage, meditation, or other practices.

8. I am only in Rishikesh for a few days. Is that enough time?

The Goddess does not work on a clock. Even a single, sincere encounter can act as a powerful catalyst for change. While we offer extended courses for those staying longer, a one-on-one session is designed to give you a 'seed'—a practice or an insight—that you can take home and continue to grow long after you have left the mountains.

9. Where are you located?

Adyakula is based in Rishikesh, India—the birthplace of yoga and one of the world's most respected destinations for spiritual practice. Surrounded by the Himalayas and the sacred River Ganga, Rishikesh provides a peaceful environment that naturally supports healing, learning, and self-discovery.

10. Is this path only for women?

The Divine Feminine is a universal frequency of consciousness. While many women are drawn to this work to reclaim their biological and spiritual power, the path of the Mother is open to all sincere seekers. Anyone looking to move from the head to the heart, and from rigidity to flow, will find a home in the Adyakula Kula.
